April 11, 2022Introducing our new video…
We get a lot of questions from members and families about finding a financial adviser.
- Who can I trust?
- Will they have my interests at heart (or their own)?
- Who has the necessary knowledge and skills to give me good advice?
Financial advice is often expensive which can make the choice even more stressful.
- Do I really need to pay for advice or can I do it myself?
- Is it worth spending this much money on advice?
- Will the advice actually help me?
These questions are all completely understandable, particularly against the backdrop of the recent Financial Services Royal Commission which uncovered widespread problems in the financial advice industry and led to a number of investigations and enforcement actions by the Australian Securities and Investments Commission.
So we have created a new short video to help people decide whether they need advice and how to choose a suitable adviser. The video complements:
- our more detailed written guide on getting financial advice; and
- the ADF’s financial advice referral program which provides a list of advisers who have given Defence undertakings that they operate free from conflicts of interest caused by how they get paid (for example commissions on product sales).
We also encourage members and their families to contact us if they have looked at the content on our website and still have questions about getting financial advice or any other money related topic.
