Do you remember the time (not long ago) when access to money overseas required us to carry travellers’ cheques or wads of cash, generally US dollars? If you do, you will almost certainly agree that the “good old days” weren’t all that good.
Over the last twenty years, with the growth of electronic banking and transfers, there has been a proliferation of travel money cards offering much easier access to many currencies without the inconvenience and security issues previously experienced.
As a result, we often receive questions seeking our opinion on the “best” travel money cards. Of course, the definition of “best” depends on your assessment and weighting of the features of each card.
Helpfully, the Australian Consumers Association has come to the rescue, just in time for the holiday season. In September 2025, they produced a survey titled The Most Popular Travel Money Cards Compared. Read the survey and find out which cards have the lowest fees, best exchange rates and most currencies.
